    Re: Installing or Updating TWS
Hi, I have a question about TWS update...

Should we even update at all?

If we update to the latest version, how risky is it that it does not connect with CT anymore?

Is there someway that we can get an auto email alert to upgrade TWS?

    Very confused.

I have not updated my TWS in years. I don’t see any purpose in updating them since cooltrade does all the work. Once you have it configured to work with your cooltrade software then you are done with tws updates forever, unless they force an update on you, every few years.

    Thanks!!! Very comforting to know.

    Learned Experts,

Strange.. For a week now I’ve been trying to troubleshoot why I find my CT box sitting at the CT login screen with the right login, but no password... waiting for me to type it in.

I updated to the latest TWS and CT, with no change. Once I log in to CT, the broker pw loads as expected...

Any ideas? I haven’t touched it in so long I forgot how to troubleshoot it! :)

    TIA!

In your Windows Task Scheduler you need to have a /a at the end of the run line for automated login.

    example:

    "c:\program files\cooltrade automated trader\cooltrade.exe" /a

note that the /a is outside of the double quotes and there is a space between the double quote and the /a.

    ei,

It bit me again! I had task sched pointing at an icon on desktop, and somehow after updating everything it wound up pointing at the executable!

    Fixed! Thanks for the reminder!

Trying to do live trades with IB
I’m a new customer to CoolTrade and I’ve had the hardest time getting everything set up. After struggling to get the initial CT software installed and to download a couple of strategies, I finally was able to observe the system working based on the CT feed.

I decided I wanted to trade with real money so I funded a new IB account, but I’m running into technical difficulties getting the system to do live trades.

To begin with I downloaded the java software (offline version). Then I downloaded the TWS software from IB (stand alone version) and followed the instructions below from the Help questions listed on CoolTrade.

    1. Install the InteractiveBrokers Trader Workstation (TWS).

    Add a few more steps.

Make sure that you turned off UAC (or moved it to the bottom), rebooted with UAC OFF (or moved it to the bottom), then clicked REGOCXFILES on your desktop.

    Install TWSAPI Components:

Thanks enlightened. I’ve seen many threads with your name on them and you are always helpful. Thanks again traderwayne5.

I followed your instructions (all additional steps) and still can’t get CT to work with my IB account.

As a side note: the read me first instructions about turning off UAC, really needs to be changed to reflect "Change to Never Notify" because I’ve read this several times and never figured out what it was talking about until your note of "move to bottom". So thanks for that clarification.

To my knowledge the phone listed for CT only allows you to leave a message. Do you know of any other way I can get someone to walk me through how to resolve this issue? Here is what the CT watchdog shows:

    CT Automated Trader Status: Running
    Monitoring Automated Trader: No
    Automated Trader Restarts: 1

    Automated Trader Process
    Sending Tws1.Connect1

Strategy Wizard Status - Strategy Wizard Process

    General Information:
    Pop Ups Killed: 2
    Timer Interval: 5 Seconds

Not sure what else to do or where to look to troubleshoot. I’m feeling like I need to be a computer programer just to install and run this software. Definitely not fun.

    One additional note:

Your last comment references only having 1 TWS shortcut, which only have one of. However, it should be noted that when I click on that shortcut, it says that the javaw.exe was moved. Windows eventually finds the file (at c:\windows\SysWOW64\javaw.exe) and I select to fix it, but when I restart the computer the error repeats. Without restarting, I click the shortcut and it works straight away.

Not sure if this could be the hang up, but trying to come up with anything to start trading.

Just found the checklist option in Watchdog. Using a program called Jing, I did a screenshot of the checklist for why it failed, but I can’t figure it out. Here is a link that shows the snapshot.

    Hi Wayne,

Apparently TWS did not install the TWS software in the place referenced by the TWS shortcut. That is why the TWS shortcut doesn’t work. CoolTrade also locates the TWS shortcut on your desktop and uses that to find and start TWS. That is why CoolTrade cannot start TWS on its own.

Set up this TeamViewer account and then I can connect to your computer while I talk to you on the phones.

    Install TeamViewer from here:

    IBerrmsg: 504: Not connected
I was able to log in to IB through CT but i get the error message IB errmsg: 504 not connected. Is this normal? Also when i start up CT, i show a message that says no historical data. I was under the impression that ib provides historical data. I logged in at simulator mode.

This was not the case when I logged in at TDAmeritrade. It provided historical data in simulator mode. Has anyone experienced this? Please help.

Thanks. I have done all the steps you have indicated. I logged in simulator mode in my real trade account. It seems like CT didn’t load the historical data from IB.I am still getting an error message iberrmsg: 504: not connected.

Try rebooting your computer and try again.
If that doesn’t work then I will need to connect to your computer and beat it up. I’ve done it about 1000 times and always get it to work.

If it doesn’t work, send email to TechnicalSupport@Cool-Trade.com and we’ll resolve it from there.

    Thanks,

    Ed

I am at work now. I ll try that tomorrow and update you with what I find.

    Real Time data from IB
Can anyone let me know if i have to subscribe to Level I data to get real time data feed to CT from IB.

Yes. You need the IB / US Market Data Bundle.
I believe it is free if you make a few trades, or $10/mo if you don’t trade.

    TWS Crash Problem (Resolved)
Some are reporting that TWS crashes after running for a while.
This mostly happens after a new TWS Update.

    Solutions:

    1. remove "check for tws updates" from your Start->Startup folder.

    2. delete the "Previous TWS" icon that the tws update program created on your desktop.

    3. sometimes the TWS.ocx file and TWSSOCKETCLIENT.DLL files are not synched to run together.

Here are the 2 files that work together perfectly:

Could this be the reason why my CT is crashing every time it tries to log into IB?

I can get to the point where I am supposed to input my IB username and password, then it crashes. I don’t get an error message, CT just shuts down.

I sent an email to CT support about a week ago and have not hear back.

Not sure what to do here.

    Any thoughts?

Daniel, that usually means that you either do not have the required IB API (

How do you get CT to login to IB unattended?
I have been running CT at another broker where the commissions are really too high for the volume of trades I am doing. So I am moving my account to IB for the low commissions.

I was surprised at the use of the security card/ process required after your login and password. I was under the impression you could schedule CT to run at IB unattended, but the indexed security card requiremet seems to render that impossible. My work hours require that my CT be able to login unattended.

In reading through the threads here I really don’t see much on that except a vague reference to creating a second user on the account. Not sure I understand the purpose or exactly how that works.

So ... was my assumption wrong or can you actually start up CT unattended with IB?

If so, exactly how do you set it up? Any help would be appreciated!.

James, everyone I know has opted out of IB’s security card program.
All you have to do is contact IB and they will turn it off.
Then you can use the Windows Task Scheduler to start CoolTrade unattended by adding the /a to the end of the run line.

    Thanks ... will call them.

    Shorting low volume stocks
This isn’t really a cool-trade or technical question, but I was hoping somebody here had some experience with going short that might be able to help.

Has anybody ever run into problems going short with a stock or etf that has low availablity on IB’s stock loaning database? For example, having them force a covered purchase at a loss.

How often does this happen? I am new to shorting, but this seems like a high risk.

The only thing that I have noticed is that if you try to short a stock and the broker doesn’t have the shares to loan, IB said something like ORDER HELD WHILE LOCATING SHARES, and then it never gets filled.

I haven’t see it happen very often, but it has happened.

Help with going live with IB
    Good day!

My wire transfer is under way to IB, and I’m excited to replace real money with the great results I’ve been getting through simulation.

Can someone knowledgeable please outline a checklist of things I must do to make sure the ability to trade goes smoothly.

So far, I’ve mostly been simulating through CTP, and when I’ve tried IB sim, I’ve had no luck connecting with IB.

If there are existing instructions somewhere, just point me that direction.

    Thanks tons!!

    Eaglestouch,

Here is a little checklist I’ve created.

Before you begin, make sure that your computer has downloaded the latest version of Java.

    Hey Eagletouch,
I am running into the same problem.... can you shed some light? also, where can I find the strategy you are using?

    Thanks

    Eagle,

Have you installed Trader Workstation from IB and done the configuration? You can find those instructions here:

    https://sites.google.com/site/ctpknowledge/how-to/ib_ctp_setup

If you start simulating, going live is as easy as opening the trader and switching from simulate to live. I would make sure CT can connect to IB first though.

You can also check out this forum post that outlines some of the things you may need to do on the IB website to get things like live Market Data:

    Help with IB and TW
I will be receiving the security from IB this week, I don’t have time to have Cool Trader Pro IT Department to call me back next week since I will be working on a big project at work during the daytime at my office and won’t be at home with CTP to setup my account.

Can someone post a step by step instruction on what to do to link up both account? I have TW installed on my system, just waiting for the hardware key so I can disable it over in my IB account. What about FILO? (First In Last Out) do I need to set that?

    Thx,

Carol, doesn’t look like your checklist came through. Can you repost?

    Thanks ~ Angela

I believe that you can see this process via the steps listed in the below How-to

    sites.google[dot]com/site/ctpknowledge/how-to/ib_ctp_setup

Once you get the security card you need to activate it - than you have to opt out of using it - if you have questions call IB at 1-877-442-2757 and they’ll walk you through the process - I just did it.

CT doesn't get Entry Price on startup-just current price...
When I start CT, I have it start IB, and even on Windows 8 this is working more than it isn’t. I just can’t figure out how to have the task scheduler start it like I did under other OSes... But that isn’t the issue.

I have a new, fast box, and the setup is now CT Dev version, and TWS v921.5, Java 1.70_17. Windows 8 (x86, 6.2). Older TWS due to new one not communicating well with CT. Makes no difference to me.

Attached is a screenshot of the price differences seen between CT and IB/TWS. The Bid & Ask prices are accurate & up to date, but the "Entry Price" in CT does not reflect the entry price at the broker. This naturally throws the strategy into uselessness.

I think I have all the API settings correct, including transmitting "Download Open Orders on Connection", and obviously Enable ActiveX clients, etc. In fact, all 8 checkboxes are checked on the API->Settings screen.

What setting(s) should I ensure are correct to allow CT to receive the price a stock was opened at-even if opened the previous day? This was all working well under Win 7, but it hardly seems that Win 8 could control this.. or could it?

    Ideas? Thoughts?

    TIA!

    pat
    :)

"Download Open Orders on Connection" should NOT be checked.
If the positions come from the broker BEFORE the software has had a chance to retrieve them from the database, it will use the CurrentPrice as the entry price. Therefore, we need to retrieve the data from our databases FIRST so we can set the actual entry price, and then the software will request the open positions from the broker.

    Please uncheck that box.

    IB HELP
Can anyone give me step by step setup instructions for inside IB so it will link up properly with CTP. Customer Support has tried twice this week and still is not right. I have started using CTP Monday afternoon and it still has not been able to run on auto. Every morning I have to help it and restart it manually. Sent e-mail to CTP Thursday morning and still no response. Very frustrated!!!! Can anyone help?

When the small login windows pops up on the upper-left of your screen, that is where you must fix the TWS Login info.

So, if you mistype type password, only fix it on that window. That way the username/password that you enter can get encrypted and stored on your harddrive so it can log in automatically on its own.

Do not fix it on the TWS login window that comes up in the middle of your screen. It may log you in one time but since the username/password did not get stored properly it will keep entering the mis-spelled password.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you 100% and that is what I have been trying since last Thursday morning. That gets IB working but CTP and IB are not communicating properly. CTP is able to trade and read IB but everything is really slow and off a bit. Also in CTP under CONNECTIVITY it reads as follows all day long, 1. Lost internet connection: 3 - 2. Connection Restored - 3. ExecuteSPTran: SP_LogTranHist Login failed for user ’ctclient2’. And this repeats all day long and there is nothing wrong with my internet. Also I can shut CTP and IB down go to Task Scheduler reset it to start in say 5 min. and it will start on its own but only as discribed above and then I reset Task for next morning at 7am and it won’t start IB at all. I think because it seems to have stored that wrong IB password somewhere and won’t reset it. Any ideas?

I think I know what is wrong.

    1. One of our transactions servers is down (being worked on) so it doesn’t affect your trader, but it still logs that it is down.

    2. When CoolTrade puts up the TWS login window on the upper-left of your screen, that is where the password is wrong. You should never enter your username/password into the box that IB pops up in the middle of your screen, as that will log you in 1 time but not save your information. If the login doesn’t work, then close the middle screen and reenter your username/password on the screen on the upper-left and then click "cancel" and then click "connect to broker". Then if the connection works, it will encrypt and store your info so it can log in on it’s own again and again.

    CT

That is exactly what I have been doing only it never gets to the midlle IB screen it stop at the upper left hand screen and says Broker connection failed as soon as it opens then I reenter password hit cancel wait two seconds and hit connect with the above posts results?? Thanks

I’ll have someone call you to connect to your computer and fix it.

There was another thread where someone was asking for the steps to configure TWS with CT. That is what I posted above. If that is not what you asking for Sale, I’m sorry. I just scrolled up and see that the issues in this thread seem more complicated.

Carol, The link worked but it took me to google-docs and I don’t have an account.

Can you just copy/paste it onto the board? I can’t imagine it being more than a few lines of instructions.

Sale, We did get CTP to start on its own. In my case- open Task Scheduler, then open Task Scheduler Library, then double click line that says Cool Trade. Now a sub menu window should open and it should say General at the top. Now go to the very bottom of the page and make sure it is set to your proper OS. Mine was set at Vista and I am running Windows 7. We changed that and now it starts on its own every morning. But I am still having problems with CTP crashing everyday exactly 5 1/2 hours after it starts and connectivity issues with IB, probably related. As far as detailed step by step instruction for how to configure IB I never got any, customer support did it for me but it sure would be nice to get some. If you do please let me know. Thanks Mike

    Enlightened, sure! Happy to help!

    1. After downloading and installing both Java and Trader Workstation you will need to launch Trader Workstation and login.

    2. Click Edit à Global Configuration.

    3. Choose the General Section

    4. Make sure that Enable ActiveX and Socket Clients is checked and Include FX positions when sending portfolio is disabled unless you are planning on using Forex.

    5. Under Trusted IP Addresses click the Create button and enter 127.0.0.1.

    6. Click on the API sections and make sure all boxes are checked.

    7. After you have confirmed everything click the Apply button at the bottom then launch
    CoolTrade.

Thanks also for this info, but I have tried the above but did notice on my TWS 4 & 5 above were under the API section and not general. I am trying to connect to the IB simulatior for the first time, but all I get in the login window at top left after entering my info is "Connecting to Broker. Please Wait. It seems to just get stuck and not do anything as it did before I made the above changes.

Can anyone advise on what to try next

    Many thanks

    Cliff

I don’t see anything wrong witht the steps specified.
However, you don’t configure the SIMULATOR login in TWS. There you are just configuring TWS to be able to work with the CoolTrade software.
Everyone must configure their TWS so I suggest you go to TWS configuration and configurate it as specified above.

To log in, I suggest you just launch TWS with their own shortcut link first.
Then, after TWS is up and running, then launch CoolTrade and on the CoolTrade Login screen, select TWS/IB Simulator, and just let it connect to the already running TWS. If all that works, then we can figure out if there are other problems.

    Enlightened

    Thank you Enlightened

I have configured TWS as above but at the moment I have the extra security enabled (a mistake), so that may not be helping. I will wait until I can disable that. I asked IB support if they could turn it off for me (by phone) as I turned it on without realising that it will stop CoolTrader login in automatically. They told me I have to wait for the physical security card to be delivered and then after login in using that I can then change it myself. This must be different to the electronic one received and i’m interested to know why the electronic one doesn’t allow me to turn it off while the physical one does, it must have different codes on it.

Will be back if it doesn’t work after that

    IB question
I am filling out the interactive brokers information and I was wondering if someone could tell me what the difference between the two are:

Non-Professional subscribers can get either delayed or real-time market data

I am not sure which one to choose.

If you are an individual trading for your own personal account you are a non-professional.

If your account is created as an LLC then you may be viewed as a professional.

I think you want live not delayed.

    Australian Market Trading
Greeting IB CTP traders. I am in Florida. I am wanting to take advantage of the time difference and trade the Australian market in the evening. Has anyone done this yet and if so, would you have any advice for me on how to get started i.e. strategy?

You cannot trade the U.S. exchanges by day and switch to a foreigh exchange at night with the same ct account.

Not to say that it is impossible but you will have hoops to jump through to reconfigure everything for the other exchange. For instance you cannot leave any open positions from one session to another. You would also have to have accounts in the other exchanges and be trading in the other exchanges currency.

Just a lot easier to do if you have a separate CT account.

I tried trading U.S. stocks during the day and switch to Forex at night and found it to be immensely easier with a separate account.

Ok, well I am still a novice at CTP, so I think I need to wait. My thought was why have CTP sitting and doing nothing while other markets are open. Another questions, and I think I know the answer. With one the one CTP license I have, can I run another instance on the same PC in the evening? I guess I will need to log ins?

    Bill,

You would need 2 CoolTrade licenses with 2 separate email addresses for each automated trader, otherwise if you log in with the same email address, both traders would step all over each other in the database.

If you had 2 licenses though you could run both traders on the same computer.

9 Long Orders Rejected - CTP dead for a week
after a lengthy PR session with CT this week, I realized that issue is CTP created 9 long orders. They never filled because my IB configuration was wrong. The orders were rejected. The IB configuration is now corrected. I contacted IB who said the orders no longer exist. CTP on the other hand still sees the unfilled orders as valid and real. CTP will not move past that. MY CTP is dead in the water.

I missed the DOW run up and would like to get trading again. Any suggestions?

An easy solution that you can do is add each symbol to the BLOCKED list and then restart your trader. All of the positions will be gone. Then you can remove the symbols from the Blocked list.

    Enlightened

My CTP is now working exactly like you said it would enlightened.investor. I would like to get back to full trading and delete the blocked 9 securities. Your advice please and thank you.

Yep it is all good now. this forum works, thanks

    The Street - Cramer
Will the Cramer strategy work with IB?

Some stocks show as $0 in all blocks.
When loading CT and the program is loading data from IB live account, some of the stock positions show only $0 for Avg Cost, Entry Price, Lmt Price, Change $, Change, %, Net P&L,, Today’s P&L. I have reloaded CT several times and (usually but not always) the same stocks have this same problem. Some times a different stock in the portfolio will have this same problem. Can some one tell me how to fix this?

    Thanks, Joel

Yes. Click File -> download developer version.
That will put up a version of the software where the 0’s have been resolved.

    IB Account Currency Set Up
Can we run CoolTrader on an IB account with the IB account set in our own currency, which in my case is GBP, or must the IB account be in USD.

    Thanks

    Cliff

    Cliff_baker_1,

To trade the U.S. exchanges it must be in U.S. dollars.

There is a setting in (IB)Trader Work Station where you select “Trade In US dollars” and IB automatically does the required conversions.

    Thanks carolnetzer27

Re: "There is a setting in (IB)Trader Work Station where you select “Trade In US dollars” and IB automatically does the required conversions".

Does this mean my account can be in GBP but if I select "Trade in US dollars" that will work OK with CoolTrader

    Thanks

    Cliff

    Yes, that is correct.

    Many thanks for confirming that.

    Regards

    Cliff

How are the exchange rates applied? Are they going to be charging exchange plus fees on every deal? That would be expensive.

I suggest you contact IB on that subject. I know we have clients that do it.

    CT

Like I thought, same as most brokers. If you trade in a different currency than your account is funded with, the debit the account and you are borrowing the currency from IB at a pretty awesome rate. Better than buying dollars at a horrible exchange rate.

    From IB:

Your account at Interactive Brokers is a multi-currency account. You can deposit and trade any currency within the same account.

It is entirely up to you if you wish to fund the account with US dollars only, or a combination of US and CAD dollars. With a margin account, you can deposit CAD dollars and trade in USD - if you do not have USD in the account, the cash balance will go into a USD debit - thus you would be borrowing USD from IB. The current rate to borrow USD is about 1.6% annually.

It is up to you if you want to borrow the USD or if you want to convert your CAD to USD. We do not convert for you. If you want to convert, you would get the inter-bank spot rate; the IB commission is $2.50 minimum (or 0.00002 of the trade value, whichever is more).

Does borrowing the USD by using margin affect your total buying power now that you have dipped into the margin? For example: If I had 10,000 CAD deposited into my IB account and started trading using USD using the margin my total margin buying power would be reduced by $10k. Is this correct?

You would need to contact IB to confirm the conversion rate for CAD -> USD. But you would have to convert your currency and then be able to trade using USD.

    IB Live connection help
I have tried to get Cooltrader to login to IB Live and after entering my login details on the IB login window that comes up at top left of screen as per Nicks "Connecting to Broker" video. After clicking "cancel" then waiting 2 seconds then clicking "Connect to broker" after a little while I got a "Auto Login TWS" window show up just under the IB Login window (Top left). This window showed a path of: "C:\\WINNT\system32\javaw.exe -jar C:\Jts\jts.jar C:\Jts" and with a user ID already entered as edemo & Pwd *******. I am guessing this second window that shows is the one referred to in other similar posts as the center one.

The "Auto Login TWS" window that came up as above, so far has only done this once and now when trying to connect I just get the IB Login window and this seems to get stuck displaying "Connecting to broker. Please wait...

    My question is:

    1) Do we have to install the IB TWS for CoolTrader to connect to our IB broker account and if so does it need to be installed on the same computer that is running the CoolTrader software for this to work? If yes, does the IB TWS need to be running for CoolTrader to automatically login to our IB broker account?

FYI: I have the latest Java installed

    Thanks

    Cliff

The problem is that you don’t have TWS installed on your computer.

You need TWS installed on your computer. There are other steps too.

You can send email to install@cooltraderpro.com and have one of those techs connect to your computer and set that up for you. They do that all day long and are master at it.

    Hedge

Here is a helpfull How-to for setting up TWS with CoolTrade.

    sites.google.com/site/ctpknowledge/how-to/ib_ctp_setup

Thank you both for you help.

Prior to my above post i hadn’t found anything that said you had to have the TWS installed on the computer as well as CoolTrade. I have now installed the TWS and CoolTrade logs into my IB account and opens the TWS and it appears to work OK when opening CoolTrade manually. I’ll have to wait until tomorrow (Monday) to see if the automated login works.

The only thing I have noticed is I get a pop up window after the initialization is complete titled "WatchDog" with the message "LoadAllVideos Error: 2147467259 [DBNETLIB] ConnectionOpen (Connect().jSQL Server does not exist or access denied" I am not sure why that is but i have to manually click the OK button to close.

    Many thanks

    Regards

    Cliff

Cliff, go to the File menu in the automated trader or the strategy wizard and click DOWNLOAD NEW SOFTWARE. That will install the latest update to the files and fix the watchdog error message.

    Hedge

    Thanks Hedge

I ran the update and that stopped the window coming up.

So far CoolTrade will not open the TWS which appears to need to be running before CoolTrade can login to IB. I tried setting up the TWS as a scheduled task to open 5mins before the CoolTrade scheduled task, but could not see which file executes the TWS application so yesterday emailed install@cooltraderpro.com from your post previously. I hope they get back soon but fortunately my wife is at home and can manually start and login to the TWS before the CoolTrader starts until we get the auto start sorted.

It’s a little strange as after I installed the TWS and then manually clicked on the open Cooltrade icon CoolTrade opened the TWS automatically and logged into IB fine at first (Sunday), but will not do it from the CoolTrade auto task scheduler start up.

    Cheers

    Cliff

So far I have had no response from my submission to install@cooltraderpro.com.

Can anyone advise on how to set up the IB TWS so that it starts up automatically as currently we are having to start this application manually before CoolTrade starts(2.10pm), which is around 2pm our time (UK). Fortunately my wife is at home and can do this temporarily.

From the TWS application icon used to start the application I cannot see from right clicking, then viewing properties which file is used to open the TWS, so I cannot, as yet set up the task scheduler to do this as has been done for CoolTrader. How do others start this automatically so it;’s running when CoolTrader starts?

    Many thanks

    Regards

    Cliff

    Cliff,

You can add a scheduled task to start TWS about 2 min before CT starts and you should be good.

Here is a little step by step.

Locate Task Scheduler and launch it via Control Panel --> System and Security --> Administrative Tools

Click "Create Basic Task..." under the Actions window.

    Name the task. Click Next

Choose "Weekly" for the time to start the task. Click Next

Change the time to start about 5 min before your CoolTrade software should start. Choose Mon - Fri as the days. Click Next.

Choose "Start a program" Click Next

    In the field for "Program/script" copy and paste the following: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\javaw.exe -cp jts.jar;total.2012.jar -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Dswing.boldMetal=false -Dsun.locale.formatasdefault=true -Xmx768M -XX:MaxPermSize=128M jclient/LoginFrame C:\Jts

Within the "Start in" field add C:\Jts Click Next button.

You will get a window that will come up asking if you want to run the program with the set arguments you have entered. Just click Yes.

Click on the check box for "Open the Properties dialog for this task when I click Finish" Click Finish

Click the "Conditions" tab and un-check "Stop if the computer switches to battery power" and "Start the task only if the computer is on AC Power"

Check "Wake the computer to run this task"

Click on the "Settings" tab and check "Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed" and "If the task fails, restart every:" 1 minute , "Attempt to restart up to:" 10 times. Click Ok

    That should do it.

    Carol

    Carol

Many thanks for that, I am getting there.

I had to amend the "Program/script" path to that on my PC, but now it works and opens the TWS as scheduled. I also followed Nicks "Task Scheduler" video and added "/a" in the "Add arguments" field and that appended that to the end of the arguments after clicking OK.

After the scheduler started a "test" schedule a couple of minutes later, it wanted me to login manually. I assumed this was because it hadn’t done this before on this auto schedule task so i entered the login info manually, thinking that adding the "/a" (as per Nicks video) would then remember the login for next time. After closing TWS the next test I had to manually login again after the auto schedule start up, so next try was to reboot the PC and try again. Again it would not remember the login details and login automatically requiring a manual login, so something is still missing somewhere.

    Any ideas

    Thanks as always

    Cliff

    Cliff,

Try this. Delete your scheduled task for CoolTrade. Then launch your Cooltrade in Administrator mode. (Hold Shift button + Right click) Choose Run As Administrator. After the program launches log in using your CoolTrade / TWS login info. Then go and re-create the CoolTrade scheduled task again and it should work.

    Carol

    Carol

To confirm, I deleted the task schedule for CoolTrade then ran CoolTrade as administrator. Logged into CoolTrade. Note: For CoolTrade to login to IB it will only appear to do this provided the TWS is running and logged in prior to opening CoolTrade. CoolTrade so far will not automatically open/run the TWS. Then I re-created the CoolTrade task schedule and it appears to function as before.

Also, even though the "Close your brokers application on program exit" is checked in the CoolTrade Automated Trader Preferences screen, it will not close the TWS application either.
    ---------

On a side note last week I tried running CT on our live IB account for the first time with the "BAC Strategy for simulating $10k (Long & Short)" on our $30k account. CT opened trades but they were cancelled/rejected immediately by IB. Unfortunately as i was not here i did not see the reason & I can’t see it logged anywhere. Not sure if this strategy is suitable for a $30k account or if anything needs to be amended in the strategy. I noticed it had margin 2:1 selected so I unselected that to see if it does the same this week coming.

    Cliff,

Which Operating system are you running CoolTrade on? Can you also make sure that your java is up to date? Here is a link to install the newest version of java.

    Carol

I am running a dedicated PC for CoolTrade which is running Windows 7 Home and i updated Java a few days ago of which is version 7, update 21 which is the same one currently on the Java site.
    ---------------

The strategy info appears to have just disappeared from your last post but I did catch it and have just downloaded both of those of which are now both set to trade. Have you tried them and if so what sort of % returns have you got per month? Thanks for the BAC info too.

May I thank you for your help so far as this is becoming a little bit of a challenge to get CoolTrade to open and login to the TWS automatically.

    Thanks

    Cliff

    Cliff,

You’re very welcome! I enjoy helping.

I think I know why your auto trader is not starting via CT. You seem to have installed TWS in a different path than C:\jts. So I believe that CT is looking to start the software in the C:\jts path and since it is not there it can’t connect. Is there a way to re-install TWS to the C:\jts path?

    Carol

    TWS was installed to C:\jts

But, I have now un-installed TWS and cleared it and the shortcuts off and done a fresh download and install to the default install path at C:\jts as before. No change from before I am afraid.
    ----------------

With regard to the USO / UCO strategies, so far they are returning a "Rule Preventing Next Trade" as "(12,26,9,1,0) is less than intraday MACD signal line (12,26,9,1,0)" for the UCO LONG and the same but "greater than" for the USO SHORT.

    Cliff

Hi I hope this helps. In IB it has to be set up in proper order and by looking at the whole post it all looks good but I just wanted to add some things. The thing that is mostly effecting you is posted at the bottom

You must download Java first because TWS is a java app. Second don’t update your TWS app its has been known to cause issues use this link

Thank you to everyone who has helped as above.

I did eventually get this fixed so CT opens the TWS and logs in automatically thanks to Henry from tech support who connected to my PC and did what was necessary. My IB account set up needed some changes for it to work as well.

Thanks also goes to Ed who helped with a CT crashing issue.

? about the security card password
On simulating with IB without the security card pw for a few days finally I had to type in my 2 codes from my security card from IB.(I never asked for a card, they mailed it to me) btw but I don’t know what to do now. Im thinking I could still use the security card & just log in before I go to work (at 4:30 am) and I would have xtra security & when I go on vacation (for example from M-F) on Monday morning I would log on (with the security card) & leave it logged on all week M-F then when I get back it would still trade all week right(or would I have to logon every day)? Does anyone do it this way or should I remove my security card login #’s?
    Thanks,
    Pete
PS what strategy would u recommemd with a $9000 account? Im hoping to double (or almost) double my $ every year. BAC is tempting (just long) but Ive heard good things about the SMA swingtrade too((my upline is doing well!) (I don’t think I have enough $ though) $2 and below??

Pete, I’d go with the BAC strategy, with 100 share lots and add on 8% drops. You have enough funds to do that. I think the SMA strategy is too expensive. I think that takes about $20k+ and the $2 strategy is for accounts with $5k and below.

I used to have the security card and it drove me nuts. I felt so liberated once I was freed from having to manually log in every day. Lose that think and you’ll be glad you did.

Hey Jerry, thanx for the reply. so you think I should get rid of the security card huh? I was thinking that but it does protect u from hackers & thieves. Im thinking for now Im going to keep it & just log on really early be4 I go to work. Would it stay logged on all week if I didn’t exit? If it did that’s what I’ll do for now.
So u think the bank of Amer. Long? it would buy more shares on .20 moves so if I bought 300 or 400 shares it would make me $60 or $80 a pop. I wish I could trade the swingtrade though. my upline (with a $50000 acct) makes about $1000/week & has made $1000 in 1 day!! Maybe I could trade less shares & symbols. How could I figure that? What strategy do u use & how much is ur acct? thanks,
    take care,
    Pete

I always hear about people complaining about the ib security card. then they get rid of it and they are happy to finally have automatic login. I’ve never heard of any problems caused by getting rid of that card.

thanks enlightened, but wouldn’t it be worth manually typing in the code to protect you from hackers/thieves? If I logged in on CTP & typed in my security code for IB on Monday morning(before I went to work) & left it alone would it stay on all week or would I have to type it in every weekday? If I only had to type it in once on Monday and left it alone I think it would be worth it for the xtra security. Just my opinion. Everyday would be a little more of a hassle but its still better to be safe than sorry.

If it makes you comfortable having the security card then go for it.
I can access my bank account from the internet with just my username and password and I’m confortable with only that level of security. I don’t see any benefit in looking up codes on a card for "added security". Actually you can tell them to require the security card for making account changes and transfering funds and still opt out of the card for trading only. That way you don’t have to manually log in each day.

    Enlightened

hey enlightened, well that sounds good to me to do it that way.I would rather be safe than sorry, I don’t go anywhere so I could log on everyday be4 5 am it wouldn’t hurt my trading?. If I went on vacation, on Monday for instance, & I logged on at 8 am & didn’t get back until Friday, would it stay logged on until then? what you said, how would I get them to do that? & do you have a system that does well with $9600? I like the swa swingtrade but I might not have enough $, unless I traded 2*(long) & 2(short) stocks.
    thanks,
    Pete

TWS will log you off everynight at midnight. So you would have to manually log in anytime after midnight Eastern Standard Time. The CoolTrade software should be auto-started each morning via the Windows Task Scheduler.

    CT

ok good to know, hmmm....I guess I have a decision to make then.....I do like the added security, but Id have to manually log on every day.......,that stinks.....is there a way around CTP logging me off everyday?
    thanks,
    Pete

Both CoolTrade and TWS need to go off each night. No way to keep either of them up overnight.

As others have stated, you can opt to keep the security card for money transfers and account maintenance. You should contact IB for an explaination of these options.

    CT

ok I’ll do that...who do I talk to to do that? I want as much security as I can.
    thanks

I got it taken care of. thanks, I had the security lifted on my Trader Workstation but left it when logging on to my account so I feel secure about this & the nice thing it was all done in about 3 min. over the phone.

    Good to hear!

Steps to going live with IB
I am about to stop simulating with CTP using the IB data feed and go live.
Before doing so I am hoping someone can help me with the steps required to make the transition.
IB Acct is set up and funded.
TWS is set up and loaded onto my computer.
CTP log-in with IB seems to work .

Do I need to clear the current ctp simulated positions before pressing the "LIVE " button on the start up screen? Would appreciate the steps involved here for a smooth transition. I have heard it’s " just press the button" , but want to make sure of the details.
    Thanks

Here is the link address again. Just copy and paste the below into your browser and it should bring up the video.

    install.cool-trade.com/media/videos/knowledge-base-videos/IB-account-setup-for-CoolTrade.mp4

I’ll also email you the video link.

I also seem to be having a bit of an issue going live with IB. I have been simulating with the no broker option and want to go live with IB. I have funded my IB account and successfully checked out my IB log-in. CTP support, in an email, instructed me to just click on the IB live button to go live with IB. I did so and got a dialogue box asking for my IB username and password which I provided. I got back a message saying it was connecting with my IB account - please wait. Nothing else happened after that and it continues to be in that state. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Here is the setup process for TWS with CT.

    1. After downloading and installing both Java and Trader Workstation you will need to launch Trader Workstation and login.

    2. Click Edit à Global Configuration

    CoolTrade.

    Newbie Question
I just downloaded the CTP software today and honestly it is a little overwhelming but I look forward to learning all the ins and outs and taking advantage of both the money-making potential of the program itself as well as the MLM opportunity.

One quick question I had--is Interactive Brokers the "preferred" broker of choice for most on here? Any reason why? I am doing my due diligence but I suppose for a small trader (I am going to open an account with around $10,000-$25,000) I should just go with whoever has the lowest fees?

Any insight into which broker I should choose would be greatly appreciated!

I will say that I or cooltrade doesn’t prefer one broker over the other.

Here is a link for the broker partners and the information pertaining to each broker.

    www.cool-trade.com/partners/partners.asp

The one thing with IB is that they do offer $1 per trade up 200 share lots and anything after that is I believe $5 per trade. But I would check out the link above as MB Trading and TD offer different deals as well.

Thanks Dewey. If there are no advantages, etc. then I would view these as a commodity and therefore just go with the cheapest. Looks like IB would probably be the cheapest or close to it.

One other question--if you want to take advantage of the Jim Cramer Action Alerts special--is TD Ameritrade the only broker set up to do that or does it matter?

    Russ,

You have to open a TD Ameritrade account. Here is the site that explains all this.

    www.thestreet.com/staticFull/aap-td-ct-offer.html

    I hope this helps!

Help, I TWS isnt loading anymore
My TWS (for IB in simulation mode) wont load up & it keeps saying "server error" over and over again(on the TWS box in the middle of the screen) attempting many times with the same "server error" message. It simulated fine this morning(friday) & now it says this. Can anyone help me? I have windows 8 & the tws 4.0 installed correctly with help from Tech support (or so I thought). Ive tried it with the task scheduler & manually & it says the same "server error" message over & over & wont load. Any suggesstions.
    thanks,
    Pete

    Pete,

Watch over this video and confirm that you have everything setup correctly within TWS.

Here is a shorter URL that will work. The other one seems to be too long.

ok Dewey, thanks, I’ll look at it and get back to you.

it works now. they must have been down for maintenance but all is good now.

    Great to here!

It looks like my link got killed. Here is the link again for reference.

Thanks Dewey, your link didnt show up on here. If you want you can email it to me it at pete@midlands.net thanks....

    CTP Crashes on Win 8
My CTP appears to connect and run fine but crashes after a few minutes on two different Win 8 computers. The same login/strategy runs OK on Win 7 computer. What do I look for to fix this? TWS continues to remain logged with no obvious problems. Very irritating.

    Dr. Martin,

Update your CoolTrade software by going to FILE->Download New Software.

Also are you trying to log into the same IB account from CoolTrade on both of your computer systems? It will only allow one CoolTrade Automated software to access one IB account.

    The Other 6 Stock Brokers
Cool Trader Pro seems to favor Interactive Brokers. My initial decision was to go with them. However, I called all 7 and discovered that IB is probably not the best for me. For example, since I plan to trade 1000 shares at a time, the price goes up significantly from the $1 in; $1 out commission. It also seems the Trader Work Station is pesky.

Is anyone willing to share your experiences with the other brokers? And especially why you have found that your particular favorite is a good chose for you and/or the CTP software?

    Thanks for all opinions.

IB charges $1 up to 200 shares. So 1000 shares equals $5 in and $5 out. Still not a bad deal.

On another note I am trying to figure out if you have to pay IB $10/month for a data feed that does not delay trading by 15 minutes. It seems as though my data feed is slow to pull in all of the watch list stocks and current positions. But I don’t believe I have this $10/month feed. This fee is waived if you have over $30 in trades per month. If you are trading 1000 share per trade that will not be an issue for you. I am trading 100 shares per lot.

That is true. So unless you typically trade 1000 or more shares at a time, it would cost more. You also pay more in market data fees with IB (Autoshares does $39.95/month but doesn’t show it very well). I have loved IB for many years, but during the last 1.5 yrs with CoolTrade, it has been a constant problem. CT crashes and too many restarts and tech support tries, but it has never been resolved. I am now switching to TD Ameritrade and will probably pay more in commissions but if it runs smoothly, it’ll be worth it. So far their customer support has been fantastic. Application and set up was a breeze compared to others I’ve seen.

    Signing up with Interactive Brokers
I have tried to complete an Application with Interactive Brokers. Since I have not made more than 100 stock trades, the application does not go through. I telephoned them and they said I could not use their platform without this experience. When I said that I was using CoolTraderPro, she did not seem to know what that was and held firm that I had to have trading experience (more than 100 trades) in order to complete the application.

    Any suggestions?

Most automated traders do more than 100 trades a year.

    2 trades a day X 270 days = 540 trades a year.

So apparently you answered the question incorrectly.

I would go back an make the correction.

    Hedge

    Thanks, Hedge,

So, in other words, you interpret that the question has to do with FUTURE trades?

I did not interpret it that way when I read it, nor did the customer service person I spoke with.

I will reflect on this and review the question. If I count my trades in simulation, I will be close to 50.

    Thanks,
    Jeanie

Which is the broker of choice with CTP? Any feedback appreciated.
    Hello CTP Traders.

Out of the brokers offered as partners with CTP, has any one determined which would be the broker of choice?

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

I just purchased CTP and will be using simulation mode for a while. Will need to set up a broker at some point.

I was on a webinar tonight wherein the presenter stated one of the brokers charges $1 per 100 shares.

    Appreciate any feedback.

    Dale in Denver

If someone would like to email me info my email is

    dale AT NetworkMarketingService.com

CoolTrade does not have a direct broker of choice.

  • The broker that was referenced was Interactive Broker (IB) and the offer for them is $1 per trade up to 200 lot shares. Anything over 200 lot shares is $5 per trade.

IB DATA FEED 15 min delay
I just went live today with Interactive brokers\. I had a trade today that had a discrepancy in the purchase price. CTP reported 34.06 and IB reported 34.42. That’s a difference of .36 !
I called IB and they said I had a 15 minute delay in the data feed, which could acct for the difference between what CTP reports and IB .

Question - I thought I had real time date feed from IB BUT do I need to subscribe to a different data feed? IB suggested a $10.00 p/mo feed ; free if $30 of trades of completed in a month.

Does everyone using IB & CTP subscribe to this $10 p/mo data feed at IB in order to assure and accurate current buy/sell pricing?
    THX
    Peter

You need to reach out to IB and make sure you sign the Data feed contract.

    Dewey
The data feed contract. Ah ha ! Not the free feed but the $10 p/mo contract. ?
That’s going to clear this issue up ?
    Thank you for your response.
    Peter

Thanks Peter. I have been beating my head against the wall trying to figure out the discrepancies. Joan

$10 for the data feed is free if your trade commission exceeds $30/month

To be more specific with IB Setup. In IB Navigate to Manage Account > Trade Configuration > Market Data > North America > Quote Bundles - If you toggle the "US Bundle" you will receive the live data feed from IB. Thats all I need for now....other choices are there of course. I just confirmed with IB Support. As noted the $10 is free with $30 of trades - Mike

This might be my problem as well. When 9:30 rolls around it takes about 10-15 minutes for all of my current trades and watch list symbols to import. Do other IB user experience the same slow early morning data feeds?

Wayne - I see the slow loading as well. What I do is start the trader at 9:10am but not sure if that resolves the loading the Watch List and positions just yet.

I’m Simulating so not sure if that makes a difference.

CT Shuts down after 30 minutes connected to TWS
After reviewing the most excellent setup videos on the support web site for IB’s Trader Work Station (TWS) I completed and 3X checked all IB Setups. I establish the connection automatically just fine and trades execute for about 30 minutes....then Cool Trade automatically shuts down. IB’s TWS remains up and running just fine. This has occurred with consistency several times today. My watch list has 12 stocks so no great volume CTP should have trouble handling. I tested connection to the CTP Data Feed and CTP stays up and works like a charm. Any assist would be appreciated.

CTP Support to the rescue! - OK the root cause of this was the CTP Installation "I" performed. CTP Support found there were no Log Files in the program directory (C:/Program Files(x86)/CoolTrade Automated Trader/Logs (appears as a folder at the top) if you don’t see this folder suggest contact support with your observation.

    Mike,

It is just something we have to live with on Windows. When Vista was released they came out with strong admin privileges and with this came the inability for a program to write to it’s own directory. Before CT is installed, the best thing to do is disable what is called "User Account Control", restart your computer and then run the setup file as administrator (shift+right click > Run As Administrator).

When CoolTrade is installed like this, the program will have the ability to write to it’s own directory, populating the log files and any other files that need to be created inside the CT directory.

Quick observation about remote monitoring using Teamviewer
This is what i observed when trying to take a peek at my computer using Teamviewer on an iPad.

TWS shuts down every time I do that - anyone experience the same?

So, for those of you who wants to take a peek, use a laptop or desktop instead.

TWS shuts down every time I do that - anyone experience the same?

So, for those of you who wants to take a peek, use a laptop or desktop instead.

I use teamviewer to view my laptop and use both my iphone and ipad to remotely monitor CoolTrade with no issues.

Are you running other programs at the same time as CoolTrade?

    What is your computer specifications?

no, it is a designated laptop just for CT

I would possibly make sure that your java is up to date.

Go to www [dot] java [dot] com and download the newest version of Java.

    Java is up to date.

My guess is that it may be caused by a resizing, i use an ipad mini and when i check my laptop, the screen size has changed. Happened twice that TWS dropped off.

So i turned everything back on and TWS worked fine without any problem.

    New Subscription Rules NYSE
Introduction of New Order Imbalance Subscriptions
We have been informed that as of September 1, 2013 the NYSE will begin charging for their Order Imbalance data to ensure more transparency and accuracy of their opening and closing auctions. As such, the data will no longer be included as part of the US Securities & Commodities Non-professional Bundle after August 31. If you would like to begin or continue receiving this data, it will be available on September 1 as:
    NYSE Order Imbalances 6 USD/mo.
AMEX MKT Order Imbalances 6 USD/mo.

Do we need to subscribe to run CT?

That is a question for the broker you are using, since the datafeed comes from the broker. Most waive the data feed cost if you do a minimum number of trades per month and most traders meet those minimum requirements to waive the fee.

    IB Tax Optimizer - LIFO
Does the IB Tax Optimizer have to be open and running for multiple trades of the same stock to be treated as LIFO?

Or is this just a setting that once saved I am good.

The downloaded file/setting is found under IB Account Management/Reports/Tax/Tax Optimizer/LIFO/Save

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    wayne,

I don’t believe you need to run the IB Tax Optimizer with CoolTrade. I have never heard of anyone needing to use that as all functionality of CoolTrade is independent Interactive Broker Trader Workstation except for processing of trades.

I was instructed by Henry with CTP to run the Tax Optimizer. Although I’m not sure why. The CTP has been working fine without the Tax Optimizer. I just wasn’t sure if that setting with IB would affect how the trader sells off the additional positions. It shouldn’t matter because the CTP works on meeting profit requirements and should always sell LIFO by that alone.

CT will sell LIFO and has nothing to do with IB tax optimizer.

However, I think by you setting the tax optimizer to LIFO you are telling IB to match your opens and closes LIFO. That is just a guess because I have never used it.
I believe the default matching is FIFO.

    I would keep it FIFO.

How to get started with Simulation?
    Hi,

When I launch for the first time, I click the Interactive Brokers simulate option and log in to the CTP app.
Then a login window for Interactive Brokers comes up requiring credentials, which I don’t have, as I only want to simulate.
Entering the CTP credentials doesn’t help.

    Please advise?

    Thanks,
    R

If you do not have an Interactive Broker account then on the login screen BEFORE YOU ENTER YOUR PASSWORD, select SIMULATE WITH COOLTRADE on the right. Currently you have SIMULATE WITH INTERACTIVE BROKERS.

    Linked IB accounts
I have two accounts with IB that are linked. The problem with this is that every time my CoolTrader opens in the morning it asks me to select one of the two accounts. I would like to be able to set one account as a default so I dont have to manually select and account. I am simulating still using the IB feed but would like to start live once I get this problem resolved. Any ideas?

IB can give you a dedicated login for each account so that you have a separate username/password for each account. That solves the login problem. IB can do that quickly upon your request.

    Enlightened

Thank you...I called them and they said I would need to add a 2nd user thru account management to create a user name and password for each account. I will try that tomorrow.

    Connecting to Interactive Brokers
    Hi,

Please help me with completing my connection to I.B.

It did not connect to I.B. this past Friday morning after following the install instructions Thursday eveing.

I have downloaded TWS and Java in that order.

How do I get I.B. to start up without the Login Codes from the card required by I.B.???

In TWS, under ’General’ in the API section there are more boxes to check off (or not) under the items to be activated than what is displayed in the instruction ’pictures’ I was sent. So what do I do there?

Is there anything else I need to know???

My I.B. account will be funded and ready to trade on Tuesday October 1st. I would to get a complete month of trading in for performance reporting purposes.

    Thank you!

    Chris

    Chris,

I would follow the below steps to make sure that you care connecting to IB.

    1. After downloading and installing both Java and Trader Workstation you will need to launch Trader Workstation and login.
    2. Click Edit ->Global Configuration

    CoolTrade.

Thanks JoeBob-- however I did all that and still had a couple problems that I ended up solving by calling I.B.

Here’s what I found out for those folks potentially encountering the same problems:

The Interactive Broker login security codes need to be deactivated. Go to Account Management at the top of TWS, then Login, go to Manage Account, choose Security, then ’Login System’, then Modify.....then choose ’Opt out’ and follow the instructions there. I think thats the sequence.

    Then......

Under the API section of TWS, "Enable DDE clients" does NOT need to be checked. I kept getting somekind of an update box regarding dde files that prevented CTP from opening. The I.B. tech guy said I didn’t need that.

Also there are some other boxes under "Logging error" that as far as I know, do not need to be checked. Those items are not on the screen shot of instructions of the API section that was sent to me from CT technical support---those looked dated to me.

After pressing the "Apply" button and "OK" at the bottom, shut down/ restart the computer.

Everything started and connected after that. So we’ll see if everything starts automatically tomorrow morning. I’d like to go live to take advantage of the dip in prices due to the gov’t shutdown threat.

    US Bundle
Does everyone trading live subscribe to the US Bundle data feed from IB? I was checking the prices against another trader simulating with CT feed and they were off by a few seconds only. Is the cooltrader simulation data feed up to the second as well?

It depends on the time of day. If the market is opening, chances are you are going to have a bit of a delayed data feed. Once the feeds settle, around lunchtime, you will get a more accurate number.

Did you find this out by comparing two separate traders and one of them was connected to IB with market data subscription?

    Thanks Phil,
Yes, I have two traders. One with IB data US bundle subscription and another with just the CoolTrade simulation feed and found they are exactly the same throughout the day. Makes me think that maybe my US Bundle subscription is not activated or the feed from CT is the same.

If they are the same it is most likely because when the software does not see a price update for 2 minutes from the broker, it takes a snapshot of the price data in the CoolTrade database and uses it.

You need to call the broker and make sure you have completed / signed all fo the docs for the US Bundle streaming level 1 data.

    Enlightened

Thanks for your response. I confirmed with the broker and I am definitely subscribed to the US Bundle Level 1 stream. Weird as I monitored the prices again today and as soon as IB CoolTrader changed in price the other one running the feed from CT changed too throughout the day...actually it had a two to three second delay. Maybe the CT feed isn’t so bad then.

I would agree the CT feed is a good feed. Just need to always make sure you have the most up to date data available.

Plus, we cant use the CT feed to trade live with a broker.

    Going Live With IB
Is there somewhere I can go to find the most complete set of instructions to connect to IB. I have been simulating with CT data so will need to complete every step. I have been reading the forums but can’t seem to find something that seems complete.

    Thanks

Kindly let me know if there is a new discount broker approved by CT- currently using Interactive but need a second broker for second CT program just purchased

    heavenboundme2,

Must you use a second broker, or could you use a 2nd account at the current broker? Is there something special you are doing, or is this the only way to get two accounts live?

I have two CT licenses, and if I wanted to trade both live, I’d either use my TDA account and my IB account, or create a second, new IB account.

    starting IB TWS automatically
Is there a way of ensuring the Interactive Brokers Trading Workstation turns on automatically prior to CTP? I am having to turn it on manually prior to opening times. I cannot seem to pick up a program for the task scheduler to automate this process. Any help greatly appreciated

I would create a task schedule to launch Interactive Brokers about 5 - 10 min before CoolTrade starts. Below are the steps.

Within the "Start in" field add C:\Jts
Click Next button.
    Click OK

Hi guys. I setup IB for auto-startup using the instructions listed, but it only brings it up to the logon screen. I have already changed the settings in IB to turn off the secondary security, but I was hoping the Task Scheduler would re-enter the initial logon just like the previous logon. Nope. I still need to provide a human interface.

Have I missed something? I even tried to add the /a argument. That didn’t help.

    Thanks!

    Regards,
    Todd

    The /a is required.

Put the path inside the double quotes and then put a space and /a at the end.

    example:

    "c:\program files\cooltrade automated trader\startcooltrade.exe" /a

    Enlightened

Thanks for the feedback. I will give that a shot and see if it works tomorrow morning. I put the ENTIRE command with its lengthy arguments inside the quotes, and then put the /a after that with a space, of course. Will give that a shot!

    Thanks, again.

Daryl, Well that didn’t work so well. Let me give you a few more details. In the Task Scheduler there is a place for the Program, and another spot for the Arguments, and a block to enter in the "Start in" this folder location.

For the latest attempt, I put this in the Program block:
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\javaw.exe (no quotes)
    And in the Arguments:
    "-cp jts.jar;total.2012.jar -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Dswing.boldMetal=false -Dsun.locale.formatasdefault=true -Xmx768M -XX:MaxPermSize=128M jclient/LoginFrame C:\Jts" /a
I do notice that there is NO SPACE after the initial quote, but there is one after the final quote.
And in the Start In block:
    C:\jis

My first attempt was to put the entire program together with the argument (except for the /a) inside the quotes in the Program box. No workee.

Can you please comment on what worked for you?

Thanks a bunch! I may be leaving for China and parts South soon, so want to be prepared to ensure the program continues to run as intended!

    Regards,
    Todd

Todd, the easiest solution is to contact technical support @ cool-trade.com and someone can remotely connect to your computer to get it working.

    EI

There is no need to make a separate task scheduler entry for TWS - Cooltrader starts it automatically if you have reset CT login to IB

    Accept incoming connection Attempts?
Is there a way to turn off the "Accept incoming connection attempts?" when launching CT and after TWS is on. I want to launch both programs from the task scheduler. Also When live does IB ask you to confirm trades? I am not at home when this program is running. Thanks for you help.

There are a couple of things that needs to be done in order to allow CoolTrade to talk with Trader Workstation.

    1. First, you need to go to global configuration.
    a. Depending on what windows you are viewing, you can access global configuration from either “File” or “Edit”.
    2. Next, on the left you will see a navigation menu. In this menu you will see “API”. Click the + next to it.
    3. 2 Items will drop down. Click “Settings”.
    4. Check “Enable” ActiveX and Socket Clients”
    a. This allows any other program to see Trader Workstation.
    5. At the bottom you will see “Trusted IP Addresses”. Next to this box you will see “Create”. Click that.
    6. Type in “127.0.0.1” and click “OK”.
    7. At the bottom of the window click either “Apply” or “OK”.
    8. When a window pops up, check the box at the bottom that says “Hide Until Next API Release” and click “OK”

All done. Now just log into CoolTrade with IB selected and you are good to go!

    Hope this helps!

One more thing I forgot to include.

Below settings you will see "Precautions". Click this and check all the boxes. Then click "OK".

This will prevent any messages from popping up while CoolTrade is placing orders.

Thanks Phil, I was missing the precautions section. I am still getting the, "Accept incoming connection attempts?" When I first launch CT after my TWS is up an running. Is there a way to stop that from happening.
    Dan

It could be something simple... but hard to tell... Here is my guide that I set up all new users with. If it still fails, you can either uninstall TWS and reinstall, then start from scratch, or contact support at cooltraderpro dot com and one of the techs can help you out.

    3. Configure Trader Workstation
    a. Select “Advanced Order Mode” on the left side of the screen.
 skip this step if you don’t get this option
    b. On next window, from the edit menu, click “Global Configuration”.
 If you do not see Global Configuration, click the down arrow to display the rest of the options.
    c. Select “General” tab on the left under “Configuration”.
    d. In the “General” settings, uncheck the “Create audit trail” box.
    e. Next, expand the "API" option on the left side of the window by clicking the "+".
    f. Click on “Settings”.
    g. Check the box marked “Enable ActiveX and Socket Clients”.
    h. Uncheck the box marked “Include FX positions when sending portfolio”.
    i. In the “Trusted IP Addresses” section, click the create button and add “127.0.0.1”.
    j. Go to the API Precautions tabs and check all the boxes.
    k. Click apply.
    l. A message from windows may pop up stating if you would allow the program access, click "Allow Access"
    m. Another window will pop up from Trader Workstation. Select the box "Hide until next API release" and click "OK".
    n. When you exit TWS, your settings will be saved.

    Complete guide (Hyperlinks removed):

    TWS INSTALLATION
In order to use your Interactive Brokers account with Cool Trade, you must first have Trader Workstation installed and configured properly on your computer. Please follow these instructions:

    1. Download and install Java
    a. Go to

    Average price
I have been trading live for over a month now using IB. I noticed that when my cooltrader adds on drops instead of showing each 100 share position on IB separate it combines the shares and shows the average price. My concern is that the cooltrader software still shows and trades all 100 share lots based on their entry price so it potentially can sell at a loss.
    For example:
If I bought 100 shares of CSCO at $23/share and then bought another 100 shares at $21/share the IB account sees this as 200 shares at an average price of $22/share. If cooltrader sells my last 100 shares of $21/share @ 1% profit for $21.21/share with it really has sold at a loss with IB as IB sees this as selling 100 shares for the average price of $22/share.

Can someone clarify if this is correct or if I am missing something.

You should be able to go to the broker and tell them to close positions:

LIFO - Last In - First Out

    or

FIFO - First In - First Out

Even though CT is closing them LIFO (and profitably), I prefer the broker log them as FIFO so they register as losses on their books. It all eventually comes out in the wash when you run out of losing positions to close and all you have is profitable positions to match the closed trades with.

    Enlightened

    Thanks EI,

Does this mean that it is in fact selling the positions based on their average price?

When you say go to your broker and tell them...do you mean call IB or do I need to change a setting in TW??

Roth IRA IB and CTP what I learned
    Hi,
Just wanted to share this with the collective. When setting up my Roth IRA trading account here were a few things I learned as well as things I learned setting up my IB account.

    1) Online Security Card. I would Opt out of it. You can NOT trade CTP automatically with it.

Here is the link if you selected it during the account creation to opt out:

I see no link there. CoolTrade forum deletes all links, apparently.

IB "live feed" and trade execution lag issues
    Hi,
I am a newbie and I started live trading CT with IB since Jan. 21st. I was initially happy to see from my closed trade report that I am at gross profit of $1226.42 according to CT but after reading my IB statement I’m not sure.

I understand that the CT closed trade report is not my net P/L so I looked up my commissions paid which is $78.75. So I thought my net P/L should be $1147.67.

But upon closer look at my IB statement, I see that my Realized P/L is only $812.32 which is a difference of $335.35. Where did that money go?

I compared my trade execution time and dollar amounts from what CT reports to what IB reports and saw that there is huge discrepancies between what CT is reporting as the price that I bought/sold each 100 share lot at and what IB actually executes it at. So some transactions that were reported as profits by CT are actually losses. Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

I read from previous threads that there is a 15 minute lag time between IB live feed and CT so it’s not a true "live feed". Is there an IB upgrade you have to get? I suspect that IB receives the trade commands from CT but batch trades that’s why they are so cheap to trade.

Ultimately my question is...which other brokerage account offers better trade execution than IB? I would rather pay a little bit more in commissions if I can see real improvement in trade execution and live feed data.

    Thank you for your help!

Are you trading with their live feed or delay feed? I would call them up, ask, and double check this.

As far as I know I have signed up for the live feed and it says live feed on the top of my screen when I am logged into CT. Of course Monday is a holiday so I won’t be able to find out for sure from IB till Tuesday.

I spoke with IB via live chat this morning. If you go to File/Global Config/API/Settings, you should uncheck the box that reads ’download open orders on connection’. I was told that would eliminate the delay. The Cust Svc rep on the live chat said that should take care of it.

However, I also read someplace that there is a possible $10 fee for this, unless you have more than $30/mo in trading fees.

That I could not confirm, and could not specifically locate where to set that up.

    Regards,
    Todd

Setting up IB and running LIVE
    Setting up and running IB.
Just got it started LIVE this morning. Had a few issues and resolutions that I would like to summarize here.
    1. Setting up WTS. Use the video "How To" that was created by CTP Tech Spt. You can find it at this link:

What link was that again? The CoolTrade forum removed the URL after you posted it.

I got these links from Tech Support just now. Hopefully, they will not be deleted:

    - install.cool-trade.com/media/videos/interactive-brokers-setup/TWS-setup-for-CoolTradeFinal.mp4

    - install.cool-trade.com/media/videos/interactive-brokers-setup/Connecting-IBTWS-to-CoolTrade.mp4

    - install.cool-trade.com/media/videos/interactive-brokers-setup/IB-Account-Setup-for-CoolTrade.mp4

You’ll have to copy and paste these in, as apparently real URLs are automatically deleted from forums.

I need some advice in setting up a new broker account.... filling in the form so I can trade. I’ve not done much in the way of buy and sells other than longer term positions, not day trading. It refuses my request for an account when I fill in the "inexperienced" box.

Susan, I found this contact on an IB Assistance Page:

Mr. Stan Flanders - (480)-250-4001 USA PST stan@cooltraderpro.com

I had the API disabled and IB said to download latest TWS to get it working. This is different than what is said in the first video posted earlier.

And the old icon has to be deleted from desktop for upgrade to work.

Funds Allocated Dont Match What I actually have
    HI,
I am trading live with IB and my Funds Allocated dont match what I actually have
in my IB account. It is off by about 50 percent. How can I correct this.

I have the following box set:

    No margin
Reserve enough funds to purchase max shares in Strategy is checked

Cool trade should never utilize more than $20,000 is selected

    Current account value is 32499
    Funds Allocated is 21928
    Funds Available is -1928

In my IB account I have 11128
    Balance is 32499

    What is up?

Download IB Trader Work Station & Configure with Cool Trader in the cloud
I have just finished the Setup IB with CT how to video in the “Ask CoolTrade knowledge base. And I seem not to be able to find the next video to watch Nick spoke about on Download IB Trader Work Station & Configure with Cool Trader. Where might that video be? Plus in addition: is the process the same when your trader is in the cloud with togglebox?

    I found what I needed.....

    Wealthpaving;

How is it going with IB and toggle box? I am also interested in setting up account with toggle box and IB and would like to know how your experience been so far? thank you.

    Wealthpaving:

Where did you find your answer, and how is togglebox going?

    Auto start IB
I did contact tech spt. And found out what I was doing wrong. I didn’t realize that CTP can start and logon to IB. In other words, I do not have to separately start IB. That is what I was trying to do.

It works now. Thanks for your feedback!

    Hey Todd,
It does log on but it ask to use the Secure Login with Security Code Card. How do you get around it or can you?

    Thank You for help,

The only way to get around the security key is to opt-out of it.
Everyone I know has opted out of the security key so they can set the automated trader to start on it’s own each day.

For the second time in 10 days my CT system does not populate in the morning at 6:30 am...first time CT support resolved the issue...second time they blew me off with an excuse that there is a terrible worldwide virus out there called Heartbleed and it may be the reason..too bad .....sorry I don’t buy it....so I’m sitting here unable to trade....what to do...? maybe it’s time to request a refund....yeah I know the answer to that....good luck.

I was starting two Traders (different computers) at the same time, 6:50am (CT). Several times it took until 8:45-9am for one or both Traders to completely empty the Exceptions list and populate the Trader screen.

I changed them to start 10-15 minutes apart (not on a :30 or :00 half-hour time), and haven’t had that problem since.

Are you running two different Trader licenses also? How about moving the start time to something like 6:17 or 6:23?

Still running CT 7.5.50 (as it cannot update any of the ways I’ve tried, and some DLL is missing from the newest Developer version).

Yesterday I noticed that a long stock position was at a high point, and I’d rather be short in that stock. I set the long Max Trades to 1 (so it wouldn’t re-buy the same thing), and I eventually convinced CT to sell off that position.

Had difficulty because CT kept selecting any stock OTHER than the stock I was right-clicking on, and I almost sold off two other positions (and that’s another long-standing GUI bug in CoolTrade 7.5).

So the IB/TWS interface showed that I sold off the position, and CoolTrade crashed. I manually (within IB/TWS) shorted the position successfully. I tried waiting for CT to restart itself, and that failed. I restarted manually, CT tried to BuyToCover that stock at $0.00, then CT froze after "Loaded 0 minute bars for EMINI" message (with no stock data/positions populated). I left it alone, and later saw that CoolTrade had restarted 27 times. And still wasn’t working. So Windows finally noticed and I killed the process that way. I exited TWS, and left it for the night with nothing else running.

In the morning, the IB/TWS was running, but the CoolTrade screen was ghosted, again, 27 restarts were logged in WatchDog. Reboots didn’t help. Manual restarts of CT didn’t either.

For two hours, nothing I tried fixed the problem, and CT kept trying to BuyToCover that stock at $0.00, then locked up at the "Loaded 0 minute bars for EMINI" point...until I added yesterday’s problem stock to the Blocked list BEFORE it got to that lock-up stage, and CT came up OK. So it’s running again.

Now I have no idea what CT will do if I un-block that stock...maybe when you block something CT tosses away the old buy/sell orders it was planning, so it will start fresh. That’s what I’m hoping anyway. I think I’ll wait until that stock short position drops, THEN unblock it, so if there is a BUY (BuyToCover) order still in there, I won’t mind if it triggers and closes the short position.

Updated TWS, now CT does not connect?
I was instructed by IB to update my TWS, to a newer version, or the API would no longer work as of May 1st. When I did that, CT no longer connects with TWS...? I emailed support and are not getting a response...?

    Signed, No Longer Trading....!

I sent email to support on the same day I got the notice last week and they replied back on the same day. They said that the latest TWS update 944.3 works fine. So you should do the latest TWS update from the IB website.

    Enlightened

I also contacted technical support as the old version of TWS could not be upgraded. CT support installed TWSStart on my PC at one time and that may have something to do with problem.

Tech support; information can be found under Ticket #2217.

As have not received a reply to my emails to tech support hopefully this will illicit some urgent action as IB will not let me continue trading as of May 1,2014.

    Thanks
    Will

I don’t think tech support monitors every post on these boards so I don’t think it’s a good idea to try to elicit urgency by posting here.

I don’t use twsstart, but I am running TWS 944.3 and the CoolTrade software starts tws and logs into it perfectly.

Perhaps you should be contacting the creator of twsstart since that is not a CoolTrade created program.

    Enlightened

I am having the same problem but am still trading. A temporary work around is to start TWS manually first and then start Cool Trader. It will connect if TWS is already started.

    Dennis

Just talked to Ron in support.
He said the developer version (7.5.60) has a different method for connecting to TWS and works quicker than the older versions. You don’t need to start TWS earlier than the CoolTrade software.

    Hedge

Thanks Hedge, but I downloaded the developer version and then restarted CT. It still did not connect and start up TWS. Did Ron have any other suggestions?

    Dennis

OK, Here’s the solution. When you upgrade TWS it leaves a previous version icon on your desk top. You simply delete that previous version icon and then it will work.

    Dennis

In reply do Dennis above, for me CT stopped connecting to my old TWS on Friday (9th May) and so I updated the TWS to latest. Only deleting the previous TWS version desktop shortcut icon did CT then connect and login to IB TWS successfully.

    Thank you Dennis

    Regards

    Cliff

Well I have done ALL that and it will still not start TWS on it’s own since I upgrade to the latest TWS from IB.

I am running the developer version of CT and I have to manually start CT and IB now...I deleted the previous version icon and that did nothing...

My CT would not connect to IB because they will not work with API. I have been manuallly connecting. The other day I was not able to connect and the program and CT detected an up swing on an underwater stock I have been nursing. CT sold my losing positions from which I will not be able to recover. Oh well. I would like to be able to have my system connect automatically like before, but it is a very difficult situation with IB. They are not very good to work with for non computer folks like my self. My wifes program is working great and I have no regrets purchasing CTP. Any suggestions on my IB problem?

Bill, I’ve been connected to IB with multiple traders for years and they all connect every weekday on their own, with no problems.

I can only suggest you send email to technical support and get one of them to set it up for you.

    IB Activity Statement Question
Been with IB for the past month & a half and just decided to look at the Activity Statement on-line. Kind of understood most of it except the item under Base Currency Summary. In Net Trades Purchases it shows a -$21,364. Not sure why when we opened the account with $13,000. does this have something to do with the 2-1 Margin IB is allowing (but we have not taken advantage of)? Not exactly sure what this means. Any help understanding this would be appreciated.

Symbol sold at loss and rebought within same minute
Have been running IB for several months and experienced on May 13 the selling off at a large loss within the $2 and Under Strategy a symbol that was repurchased at the same price within the same minute. Has anyone else had this experience and does anyone know how to avoid this.. Thank you in advance.

    It appears that either:

    - the $2 and Below Strategy stop loss was met, and closed out at a loss, or
    - Institutional Ownership dropped under 5%, and the position closed.

That strategy’s stop loss is $50/share, which isn’t possible to reach for a $2 share.

Did you happen to see the prices shown on the Trader screen for that symbol that day? Compare those to the TODAY’S TRADES window and the Report values -- you might see there was a large drop, institutional exit, and immediate recovery in the stock symbol if there was a significant short-term price difference. Or check the symbol’s 1-minute chart at StockCharts.com for institutional ownership < 5%.

    Wash
Since you/the robot re-bought the position within 30 days after a loss, there may be a Wash Sale Rule to be aware of, as such losses are not recognized by the IRS. Since you re-opened at that point, if you wait, you should only be out the trading fees.

    Re-Entry
While the $2 and Below Strategy has a ReEntry Pullback of $0.05, you said it was the same price, so that wasn’t why it re-bought. I’d say the Open Position Rules were used to re-open your position (and the Institutional Ownership went > 10%).

    IB
IB is changing its data plan (charging more).
They are asking to pick a new plan by 12/1/14.

Any suggestion as to which of the several new options to get?

I am going for the four marked Yes. Just wanted to get someone else’s opinion.

Yes U.S.Value Bundle ($10 per month)
No U.S.Value Plus Bundle ($5 per month)
Yes AMEX Level 1 ($1.50 per month)
Yes NYSE Level 1 ($1.50 per month)
Yes NASDAQ Level 1 ($1.50 per month)

    Two IB Market Data offerings
  • US Stock Bundle (NP,L1) NonPro US Securities and Dow Jones Indices bundle NP L1. Includes top of book for NYSE, AMEX, and NASDAQ listed stocks. $10 USD

  • US Value Bundle (NP) NonPro An alternate NBBO that will deliver aggregated quote, trade, volume, and optional depth information for all four US equity exchange books operated by BATS (BATS, BYX, EDGX, EDGEA). Includes Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 Indices and top of book GLOBEX quotes for CBOT, CME, COMEX, and NYMEX. $0 USD [free only until ~12/31/2014]
    ---
Consider yourself lucky as a non-professional trader to get these market data feeds for such low prices. Not sure for $5 more you’d get anything out of the "US Securities and Futures Value PLUS Bundle 5".

For just $14.50/month, you will likely get the same or more than I would get for $97, as I’m using a trading entity (trading as a LLC business), and so only have the choice of Professional market data feeds like:

    Market Data Subscriber Status: Professional
  • North America NYSE Equities $50.00 USD (dropping to $40/month in 2015)
  • NASDAQ Equities $23.00 USD
  • AMEX Equities $24.00 USD

  • So it looks like you made a good market feed choice.

    Thank you for your input.

    IB Market Data Subcriptions
I am confused and wondering what Data Subscription I really need to trade live. IB offers the:
US Value Bundle for $10 USD
US Value Bundle Plus for $5 USD

They also offer Level 1 (NBBO)
    Amex Equities $1.50 USD
    Nasdaq Equities $1.50 USD
    NYSE Equities $1.50 USD

Since I am only trading DOW & S&P500 stocks do I need the US Value Bundle or can I just sign up for the Level 1 (NBBO) options??

Not sure how valuable NBBO is when trading DOW and S&P stocks, but the price is much better that the US Value Bundle.

I just signed up for the new feeds last week.

    You need each of these:

US Value Bundle for $10 USD
    Amex Equities $1.50 USD
    Nasdaq Equities $1.50 USD
    NYSE Equities $1.50 USD

    You don’t need this one:
US Value Bundle Plus for $5 USD

Thanks for the reply. I have been using only the three Level 1 (NBBO) options:
    Amex Equities $1.50 USD
    Nasdaq Equities $1.50 USD
    NYSE Equities $1.50 USD

It has worked fine without any issues so far so I am wondering why I need the US Value Bundle for $10 USD? From what I understand the NBBO offers best bids/offer on the symbols I am trading (DOW30 & SP100) unless I am missing something??

Will not log on to Interactive Brokers
I have configured the Interactive Brokers (IB) TWS software for CoolTrade. When I start CoolTrade and type in the log on for IB the IB log on comes up in the middle of the page but CoolTrade does not fill it in and then times out. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am also running CoolTrade on their Cloud

Hi. I am having this same problem. Where you able to find a solution to this?

Hi! I had the same problem a few weeks ago, and believe it or not, it mostly had to do with having all of my windows updates installed, AND then Installing JAVA 7 not the most current 8 one. Ron from CT Tech support figured it out for me. Good Luck!

    to use togglebox or not???
is it better to use your computer in the cloud or does this vps situation cause a problem- I have been instructed to use the cloud as that allows the computer to be turned off during trading days and c.t. starts on its own - if I just have ct on my computer I can never turn it off for it to start auromatically in the mornings- suggestions please I want to start trading realtime but want everything properly in place- I have been using togglebox but with my subscription it does not seem to be have enough power to run CT effectively without error reports such as invalid picture.. any body have these concerns???

I don’t use any of the VPS providers but I heard there are more than one.
I suggest you send email to technicalsupport@cool-trade.com and find out who the other VPS provider is because I heard one of them provides more than enough computing power for an automated trader.

I have been using a VPS for the last four months and have been very happy with it.
The reason I chose vps is I am often away from home and this way I don’t need to worry about having a reliable internet signal. The computer that I am using is an Asus Transformer and was worried that it would be under powered, but so far I have not had any problems. It is nice to know that Cool Trade is running no matter were I am.

cooltrade won't login to TD Ameritrade
I have been simulating for several weeks using the cooltrade data feed site and I’m ready to go live with TD Ameritrade.
When I attempt to login with TD Ameritrade as my broker, I get an error message saying that it has "used up all login attempts".
    Does anyone have any suggestions??
    Thanks

    Found my solution.
I cleared the saved passwords and restarted.
Then I was able to login to TD Ameritrade.

automatic login for CT to IB every moring
I love the auto login every morning from CT to IB. However, the little IB login box that appears in the upper left corner of my screen recently showed some junk words in front of my user ID...and now the auto login fails. How to reset the password? Is it the IB user ID that needs to be reset...or is it the CT user ID? Not really sure....
    Thanks Ned

You should click FILE->LOGOFF one time. That will clear all passwords.
Then the next time you log in you can enter the correct broker username/password again.

    Installation Error Message - TWS.OCX
I receive an error message when I install CT on a 32 bit Win 8.1 machine

    "tws.ocx failed to register"

Not I get an error message at the bottom of the CT screen - TWS.OCX missing.

When I installed my trader there was a file on the desktop called something like regocxfiles.

I think I recall support telling me to double click that icon a few times to get rid of that error. I think you need to do that when cool trade isn’t running. It runs a little black window on the screen for about 10 seconds each time you double click it. I think this attempts to re-register the ocx files, whatever they are

    IB Security Log In Code
On June 17th my CT Auto Trader would not download and connect with Interactive Brokers... the system appears to require this manual security code login procedure. Any thoughts on how to override this manual login?

technicalsupport@cool-trade.com can help you with it.
There are thousands using IB so we know the login works.

Brokerage fees - re Auto Shares
I made an application with Auto Shares assuming there would just be a $1.00 per trade fee but received info back from them that there is a $39.95 monthly fee also. Cooltrade info didn’t indicate that addituional fee. Is that true? Also I am open to going with a different broker. Any suggestions?

I opened an account with them too but have not seen any invoice yet.
However I think all brokers charge for data and then discount it if a sufficient number of trades are made.
You should call them and see if you can get it waived since they only recent came online with CT.

    api
trying add new computer setting it up . downloaded tws , says unathorised to change api settings.

had upgrade new version. now not signing in the second broker window . first one working but the next auto fill just sits there hmm

I tried the ideas on here, putting in old java, uninstalling the java, trying different versions of java, tried uninstalling tws , reinstalling, I contacted support but believe they off weekend and today. I have go work Tuesday so any input if anybody on would be helpfull

CT is now asking for an API Key along with user name and password to "CONNECT TO BROKER"
HOW do I find/get/generate an API Key?

    getting cooltrade and tws working
I have a problem with cooltrade saying it has stopped working. been trying get it work correctly for about 3 months. I tried lots of steps, tried reinstall tech lots of times, I ended up getting a new computer, I started having some problems and it started working but is doing same as other computer did. says in a window cooltrade stopped working and either closes or leaves box there. any input would really help.

I believe that is caused by a lack of memory. Try running with no more than 20 symbols in the watch list and see if that stops the shutdowns.

Also click on FILE->DOWNLOAD BETA VERSION. The updated Beta version has improvements that use less memory.

The latest version as of this writing is 7.5.209

I’m only running bac for now, I got a new computer its got massive ram 16 gb ddr3 . I seem to get the problem after it does a trade more often even though don`t think related cause sometimes it just does it. I’m just trying think through as much can, I spent days reloading checking settings rechecking. only thing new trying is each individual version , to see if one works. I’m just curious, if its a windows warning, are there windows settings. or is windows just auto update I’m been checking updates even though set auto.

Trader or Investor on IB application
Help with a broker application. On the IB application to open an account it asks if I am trader or an investor. If I am using the CT it is selecting a stock or stocks based on my chosen strategy. I see myself as an investor trying to use the CT for greater success. Hope my question makes sense. Just want to make sure I choose the right category.

    Autoshares Brokerage
I am just getting started with Autoshares, and having problems placing orders. Their Tech told me I HAVE TO trade margin because of the SEC Rules. Something about the trades not settling out for three days?
Already dealing with Robotic Returns about this, but wondering if anyone else has had this happen. When I was opening the account not one word was said about any requirement to trade margin while the trades entered settled out.
    Comments?

Everyone should have a Margin account.
It doesn’t mean that you have to do 2-1 margin.
Cash account take days to free up funds after you close a position.
If you have a margin account it frees up the funds immediately so they are ready for reuse by the software.

Every account at AutoShare should be a Margin account. The software works best with Margin accounts.

Thanks for the answer about the margin account. I just didn’t understand that part.
But my major problem is that the software is in live mode now, sending orders, and Autoshares is not getting the orders. Just talked to their tech and he said they are receiving no orders from my software although I am currently logged in to Autoshares.

That is probably because your account is cash and being changed to margin and in flux.
Only AutoShares can fix that. I think accounts that start in Margin don’t have problems.

Has IB/CT "Live Trade Enabled" Stabilized Yet?
Hello CoolTrade Community. Curious to know--has IB/CT "Live Trades Enabled" Stabilized Yet? I lost patience with it a few months ago and switched over to AutoShares. While AutoShares/CT definitely runs a lot more stabile than did IB/CT, I find that I liked the TWS that IB utilizes and was thinking of switching back. Your responses are greatly appreciated.

We haven’t had any reports of crashes with CT/IB in a long time.
    You shouldn’t have a problem.

Help Interactive Brokers keeps sending me bullitens about market orders
Im using a dow 30 long strategy and Interactive brokers keeps sending me bullitens about using market orders and they recommend me using limit orders or another type of order (which cooltrade cant do). Market orders are the only orders that cooltrade can use right? My concern is that IB will not execute my orders or want me to use limit orders something else to trade & they will really want me to do this if I change strategies (which I plan on doing) using the pharmacutical stocks (which move a lot more than the dow 30 ones). I dont really want to switch brokers but if I have to I will. Is anyone else having this issue & what should I do about it?

First, you know for a fact that each position in CoolTrade is selling at a profit.
That is, the Exit Price (shown at the top of the Automated Trader where it shows SHOW TRADES) is a higher price than the Entry Price. That is because you are closing the bottom-most postion for each symbol. That is called LIFO - Last In / First-out.

However, the broker is match the Closing sale with the FIRST lot that you purchased for that symbol. They are matching it FIFO - FIRST In/ FIRST Out.

How they match the trades does not matter as profits are profits.
When you complete close all of the shares of a symbol, the P/L will be the same regardless of which method is used (FIFO or LIFO). That is called the Associative rule of arithmetic. i.e. the order doesn’t matter.

In the meantime, when they match them up as FIFO (for your taxes) it essentially is allowing you to realize the losses on positions that you know you did not even close yet.
Sounds like a good thing to me!!!

If you search (with the search button at the top of the community board) you will see this topic has been discussed multiple times with multiple explanations.

    Thank you,
    Ed

    TWS 4.0 unsupported 04-2017
I’m reinstalling my Cool Trade and IB TWS set-up to a new computer (WIN10) and when launching TWS downloaded from CT Knowledgebase link (TWS v4.0) I received a notice saying I had to upgrade because support for 4.0 will terminate April 2017.

Going to use the stable version of TWS - will update this thread when I get done!
