NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--E*TRADE Financial Corp. (NASDAQ: ETFC - News) today announced that E*TRADE Securities LLC has launched open application programming interface (“Open API”) for third-party and independent software developers to interface seamlessly with E*TRADE’s investing platform.
Through the new Open API, customers will have access to technical information and documentation, reference guides, and other resources to help network external applications and programs with E*TRADE’s investing platform.
“Open API presents a world of opportunity to customers looking for a more customized investing experience and to software developers looking to create the next great investing app,” said Michael Curcio, President, E*TRADE Securities. “Our main objective is to facilitate innovation and ideas that empower customers – ultimately creating a richer investing experience.”
E*TRADE also announced plans to offer customers the ability to interface with popular third-party vendors including CoolTrade and AbleSys through Open API, providing investors seamless access between E*TRADE’s fast, reliable trading technology, and these external programs’ market research and stock trading tools.
“We’re excited to connect via API with CoolTrade, AbleSys and others in the future – allowing customers to leverage E*TRADE’s world-class technology, account management and order execution, while having greater options for customized trading, research and market interaction,” Curcio said.

E*Trade, TradeStation and Interactive Brokers encourage the development community to build apps that link to their trading platforms.
LAST MONTH, E*TRADE (www.etrade.com) announced the launch of its Open Application Programming Interface, or API. This set of technical programming instructions allows you to write your own trading application, or app, that ties into your E*Trade account. It can also tie applications and Websites from other developers to customize the appearance and functionality of your E*Trade connection.
For most of us, this "open" collection of obscure programming utensils and standards—including, for example, a programmers’ tool kit with the memorable name SDK, or files tagged with the extension .XML—will be close to meaningless. But you may already be using some kind of trading app or plug-in that customizes your connection to E*Trade, and there’s no question that, with the proliferation of gadgets and third-party Websites, more such customizing and control programs are on the way. Like other online investment outfits, E*Trade doesn’t want to restrict its customers’ interface and functionality options to its in-house offerings.
THE FIRST THIRD-PARTY APPLICATION E*Trade links to is CoolTrade (www.cool-trade.com), an automated-trading application which you customize with your own personal-trading criteria. Once you’ve got it set up, when a particular stock hits your targets, the CoolTrade application will execute a trade for you through your E*Trade account.
CoolTrade’s CEO, Ed Barsano, says, "I’m glad they chose us as their first API partner. It presents a tremendous opportunity for growth in the number of traders using our product." CoolTrade also executes trades on Interactive Brokers, MB Trading, TD Ameritrade and OptionsHouse.
Barsano, a retired Microsoft developer, notes that E*Trade created a very efficient and secure process to enable third-party applications to link to it, noting, "From a programmer’s perspective, they’ve really written it well. I think it will be extremely easy for other companies to connect to it."
Delo says that several other programs, including AbleTrader and ESignal, have applications in the works that will link into the E*Trade platform.
IF YOU’RE A PROGRAMMER, or just want to build your own trading strategy, you can write your own custom interface that links to your trading account at an appropriate brokerage. Since it’s prohibitively expensive to bypass a broker and link directly to the exchanges, writing your own interface is the ultimate in customizing your trading experience.
There are some hurdles that a developer has to get over. Every API is different, usually written in a variety of programming languages. In addition, every broker’s compliance department has slightly different interpretations of the various rules and regulations.
So once you’ve got an application–whether it’s technical analysis, automated trading, or a mobile app–you have to make sure it works properly with the broker’s system. Then you have to make the lawyers happy by ensuring the customer’s privacy, and by seeing to it that the app places trades legally.
Is this something an individual investor should consider? If you’re handy with programming tools, and have time to tinker, it could be an interesting project. If it’s good enough, you could even make some additional money by attracting subscribers.

If any stock stops feeding data for 15 seconds , it will restart/reconnect to broker and reregister the symbol to request streaming data.

Increased the max amount to trade per symbol from $200k to $500k.
ETRADE logins are now good for 30 days, so manually logging in via the ETRADE website only needs to be done once every 30 days.
Now sends symbol to the Exceptions folder if the broker rejects an order and there are no open positions for that symbol.
If the broker rejects an order and there are open shares then close orders will still be allowed, but no attempts to open new shares will be allowed.
Code changed todisplay “All Open Position Rules Failed” if ANY is used and all open positions fail.
There are a few new indicators:
SessionPL%: If your account balance increases by this amount, from market open, it will close all positions.
SessionPLTrailingStopLossValue: After the above goal is reached, it will wait for your account to drop by this amount before closing all positions.
Sample Exit Rules:
SessionPL% > 1.5
SessionPLTrailingStopLossValue: 50 (after the account value increases by 1.5%, it waits for the account to drop by $50).
Note: After the SessionPL% is reached, NO MORE positions will be opened for the rest of the day.

I’m trying to download the latest Beta CT.
But the download window gets to ...NewRelease/cooltrade.exe download and says ’File busy...;
It never gets past this?
I have already marked permissions as directed by the video.
But now where can i find that video?
CT must have about 10 websites. But there is no central rescource where i can find a directive to find all items i need.
Am i missing something?
